A young graduate student named Barbara is madly in love with her boyfriend Nicolas and deep into writing her thesis when she learns of her pregnancy. Reeling from the initial shock, Barbara tries in vain to conform to the image of the happy expectant mother. However, instead, she finds herself annoyed by her tedious birthing classes and complaining about her suffering sex life. Once the baby is born, Barbara is faced with the helpless little being who needs everything from her. But despite the support of a devoted boyfriend and friends, Barbara struggles to connect with her child.
